Bempedoic acid (BA) is a novel first-in-class oral lipid-lowering therapy. BA has been approved by the European Medicinal Agency and Food and Drug Administration and has been commercialised throughout Europe since the end of 2020 as an add-on therapy in patients at high/very-high cardiovascular risk that are not at LDL-C goals with current lipid-lowering treatments. Abstract Background and aims Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) is a largely understudied region, despite having the highest cardiovascular disease mortality in Europe. This analysis aimed to assess the proportion of patients in CEE who achieved their LDL-C goals based on individual cardiovascular risk recommended by the 2016 and 2019 European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) guidelines. Scientific data support the effectiveness of reducing total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in preventing atherosclerotic disease cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events. Current guidelines suggest the use of innovative nutritional strategies in lipid management based on consumption of nutraceuticals and functional foods. Nutraceuticals are products isolated or purified from foods (generally sold in medicinal forms), while a functional food is similar in appearance to, or may be, a conventional food.
